Why Alexander Arms

Alexander Arms is the home of the .50 Beowulf and 6.5 Grendel, two cartridges made to run in an AR-15. The guns are built at the Radford Arsenal in Southwest Virginia.

The .50 Beowulf is the reason to come here. It was designed for the AR-15, so a Beowulf upper goes on a standard lower and turns it into a big bore gun. Alexander sells the uppers, rifles, ammo and brakes to match.

Besides Beowulf and Grendel guns, the catalog lists .17 HMR and .338 Lapua Magnum rifles.

Uppers cost more than the typical one: about $700 against roughly $400. In early October only about 23% of its listings across stores were in stock, and the ammo is a niche round too, so plan where you'll buy it.

We'd buy a Beowulf upper if you want big bore punch on a lower you already own. For a do everything rifle, a standard caliber makes more sense.

  • The .50 Beowulf was designed to run in an AR-15, so you can swap uppers on a standard lower.
  • The rifles are built at the Radford Arsenal in Southwest Virginia.
  • Besides Beowulf and Grendel guns, the catalog lists .17 HMR and .338 Lapua Magnum rifles.
