Why Sons of Liberty Gun Works

Sons of Liberty Gun Works builds duty style AR-15s in San Antonio, and more than 300 police agencies in over 30 states run them. In November 2025, SOCOM chose a select fire MK1 with an 11.5 inch barrel for its Combat Assault Rifle program after heat, cold, dust, mud and salt trials.

On a build, the parts you'll see are the small ones. SOLGW gas tubes are QPQ treated stainless, come in pistol through rifle plus one lengths including a 13.65 inch intermediate, and include the roll pin, for $21 to $25. The V2 gas block is 4140 steel, .750, with set screws and ready to pin.

The Liberty Fighting barrel is 41V50 chrome moly with a chrome lined bore, phosphate outside, .223 Wylde, 1:7 twist and a DLC coated extension, in 11.5 inch carbine or 13.7, 14.5 and 16 inch mid-length, at $249. Rifles include the MK1 CAR and Recce, the L89 and the M4 EXO3.

SOLGW gas tubes rank third in their slot, in about 16% of builds that have one. Its gas blocks rank fourth at 9% and run about $45 against roughly $51 for a typical gas block.

The catch is getting one. SOLGW runs a live inventory and won't take backorders, so a sold out part simply isn't for sale, and rifles that aren't in stock take 6 to 8 weeks to build. The lifetime warranty runs muzzle to buttstock.

Stores are thin too. In early October only about 33% of SOLGW listings across stores were in stock.

We'd grab a SOLGW gas tube when the right length is in stock; it's a cheap way to put a duty grade part in the gas system. For a full upper, the Liberty Fighting barrel is where we'd start.

  • SOCOM's pick was a select fire MK1 with an 11.5 inch barrel, chosen after heat, cold, dust, mud and salt trials.
  • SOLGW rifles have a lifetime warranty, muzzle to buttstock.
  • The M4-76 runs an A5 buffer system with a VLTOR A5-H2 buffer and a pinned and welded NOX muzzle device.
  • More than 300 law enforcement agencies in over 30 states run SOLGW rifles.
