Why Aero Precision

Aero started out machining aerospace parts in Tacoma and spent years making receivers that other gun companies sold under their own names. That's still the core of the brand: forged receivers that fit everyone else's mil-spec parts.

The M4E1 is why most people know the name. It's a forged 7075-T6 lower with the fixes you'd otherwise do yourself: a machined-in trigger guard, a flared magwell, a tension screw for the upper and a threaded bolt catch pin. For the money, few lowers give you more of the useful extras.

The rest of the line follows the same idea. The M5 is the .308 version on the DPMS high pattern, the EPC-9 lower takes Glock 17 and 19 magazines, and the ATLAS handguards are 6061-T6 on Aero's own slim mounting system.

Prices sit under the typical part in most slots: about $155 for a lower against roughly $215, $130 for a bolt carrier against $200, and $125 for a handguard against $175. Builds on Aero receivers most often add BCM, Geissele and Magpul, so the savings go into the bolt, trigger and stock.

The usual complaint is fit. An Aero upper can be tight on another brand's lower, and now and then one comes out of spec inside. The limited lifetime warranty covers defects and stays with the gun if you sell it, and an Aero upper on an Aero lower is the safe pairing.

The bigger problem in 2026 is finding one. Aero and Ballistic Advantage went into receivership in May, and a family investment group bought them, Stag Arms and VG6 on September 2. Production stays in Washington, but in early October only about 2% of Aero listings across stores were in stock, against about three quarters of BCM's.

If a dealer has an M4E1 on the shelf, it's still an easy pick for a first build. We'd buy what's in stock rather than sit on a backorder while the restart settles.
