Why Lead Star Arms

Lead Star builds race guns: light, skeletonized ARs and pistol caliber carbines for 3 gun and other speed matches. The old Lead Star website now forwards to a big retailer's store page, so that's where most of the line sells.

The Prime is the one to know. Both receivers are machined from 7075-T6 and cut full of windows to drop weight. It runs a 16 inch 4150 barrel in .223 Wylde with a 1:8 twist, a mid-length gas system and a 15 inch carbon fiber M-LOK handguard.

The trigger is a Hiperfire ECL that breaks around 2 pounds, with an ambi Radian Talon safety, a flared magwell and Lead Star's own ambi charging handle. Expect roughly $1,600 to $2,660 depending on the setup.

Skeletonized receivers trap dirt and show every scuff, and that's a lot of money for a rifle built mainly to be fast. We'd look at a Prime if you shoot matches and want a ready race gun; for a general purpose rifle, spend less.
