Why Proof Research
PROOF Research makes carbon fiber wrapped barrels in Montana. The core is a cut rifled 416R stainless match blank, turned thin everywhere except the shank, gas block journal and muzzle, then wrapped in carbon fiber in a helical pattern.
The result is 20 to 64 percent lighter than a steel barrel of equal capability. The wrap is built to pull heat away from the steel, so the barrel cools faster and stays accurate longer through strings of fire.
PROOF barrels fit AR-15, AR-10 and bolt rifles, and the company also sells complete rifles like the Glacier, Elevation and Tundra.
