About Crimson Trace

Crimson Trace is the company that made Lasergrips a thing, lasers that turn on when you grip the gun. It also sells weapon lights, red dots and scopes.

Founded 1994, Wilsonville, Oregon · Lasergrips · Instinctive activation · Weapon lights

Why Crimson Trace

Crimson Trace was founded in 1994, is based in Wilsonville, Oregon, and made Lasergrips a thing: lasers built into the grip that switch on when you hold the gun normally. It's owned by American Outdoor Brands now.

Lasers are still the core. Lasergrips and Laserguard units fit specific pistols, Lasersaddle mounts on shotguns, and the Rail Master Pro is a laser and light combo for rifles at about $318. Lasergrips carry a three year warranty.

Lately the line has grown into red dots like the CT RAD and CT RAD Micro at about $220, plus weapon lights, riflescopes and rangefinders. Gun makers also install Crimson Trace lasers at the factory.

About 2% of lasers added to builds here are Crimson Trace. A laser is a niche add on a rifle. Model specific units also only fit the gun they're made for.

We'd look at Crimson Trace if you want a laser on a carry pistol or a shotgun. On a carbine, a dot or a combo light does more.

  • Lasergrips carry a three year warranty.
