Why Timney Triggers
Timney has made triggers in the USA since 1946. Every AR trigger is a drop-in cassette, hand assembled, tested and calibrated, and backed by a lifetime warranty.
The AR-15 Competition is a single stage cassette with a 3, 4 or 4.5 lb pull, a curved, straight or skeletonized shoe, and no need for anti-walk pins. The Targa two stage runs a 2 lb first stage and a 4 lb break, with an S7 tool steel hammer in a 6061-T6 housing.
The Impact AR is the entry trigger at about $135 list, a 3.25 lb single stage. The AR PRO is the competition two stage at under 2 lb total pull. Competition models run $199.99 to $269.99.
Timney is the third most added trigger, in about 7% of builds with one. At about $174 it costs a little more than the typical trigger at roughly $167.
The trade-off is feel and upkeep. The Impact is less refined than a RISE RAVE 140, the AR PRO reset is barely tactile, and cassettes let dirt collect between the housing and the parts. The Competition also won't fit a .308 AR.
We'd start with the Competition at 4 lb for a general purpose rifle. Go with the two stage Targa if you shoot mostly at distance.
- The Targa two stage installs with your rifle's own trigger pins plus two included screws.
- The Targa hammer is wire EDM cut from S7 tool steel, in a machined 6061-T6 aluminum housing.
- The AR-15 Competition trigger is a full drop-in cassette and doesn't need anti-walk pins.
- Every Timney is hand assembled, tested and calibrated for the platform it's made for.
