Why Trijicon
Trijicon started in Michigan in 1981 importing the Armson OEG gunsight, became Trijicon in 1985, and put its first ACOG in front of the US military in 1987. It's still privately held and based in Wixom, Michigan.
The ACOG is the reason you know the name. The TA31 is a fixed 4x32, 5.8 inches long, waterproof to 11 meters, and lit by tritium and fiber optic, so there's no battery to die. It's built to be shot with both eyes open.
The red dots carry the same idea. The MRO has a 25mm objective, a 2 MOA dot and about five years on one CR2032, and the 2025 MRO HD Patrol adds lens covers, a Killflash and night vision settings. Credo, Huron and Ascent scopes cover hunting and LPVO work.
Trijicon prices sit well above the typical part. Its rifle scopes run about $1,740 against roughly $400, and its red dots about $900 against roughly $485. It's still the third most added rifle scope, in about 7% of builds with one.
Price is the plain complaint, with ACOGs listing from about $1,500 to $2,800. The TA31 also has just 1.5 inches of eye relief, which punishes a sloppy cheek weld or an odd shooting position. Early MROs drew complaints about a slight magnified look, a tinted lens and parallax at distance.
We'd buy Trijicon when the optic has to work without a battery or a second thought, and an ACOG is the place to start. If you only want a red dot for the range, you can spend far less.
- ACOGs light the reticle with tritium and fiber optics, so there's no battery to die.
