Why Real Avid

Real Avid is a Maple Grove, Minnesota tool company. It makes the bench gear for working on guns, not the gun parts themselves.

For an AR the main pieces are the Armorer's Master Kit at about $300, the Master Gun Vise at about $300, Smart-Torq torque limiters from about $120 and a Master-Fit A2 crowfoot wrench set. The Bore-Max kit handles cleaning.

You can piece the same tools together for less, but the kits keep everything in one case. If you're building your first AR, we'd start with a Smart-Torq and the AR tool before buying the full kit.

  • Real Avid's AR15 Armorer's Master Kit, Master Gun Vise and Smart-Torq torque limiters cover most bench work on an AR.
  • For cleaning, they sell systems like the Bore-Max Master Cleaning Kit.
