Why Fortis Manufacturing

Fortis started in 2011 as a small AR parts shop run by working shooters, and it still runs a lean CNC operation. The parts lean toward light aluminum with clean lines, but function comes first.

The SHIFT vertical grip is what made the name, and it's been copied so much that it's the most counterfeited thing Fortis makes. The K1 end plate system pairs an end plate with a castle nut in black, FDE or OD green and sells for about $38.

The rest covers the parts your hands touch: the REV 2 and Night Rail handguards, the SWITCH rail that comes off with a lever, the SLS FIFTY selector with 50 or 90 degree throw, the Clutch charging handle, a mag catch and release, SHIFT handstops and RED and CONTROL brakes.

Fortis makes the most added end plate, in 23% of builds that have one, at the slot's usual $30. The SHIFT is the third most added foregrip, at about $57 against roughly $24 for a typical grip.

Price is the knock. A SHIFT costs more than twice a basic polymer grip, and the copies on marketplaces are cheap enough to fool people. Buy from a real dealer so both the part and the limited lifetime warranty are genuine.

We'd start with the K1 end plate, an easy upgrade at mil-spec money. Add the SHIFT if you want a vertical grip that feels solid in the hand.
