Why Sharps Bros

John Sharps started Sharps Bros in 2012, building custom AR-15 lower receivers. The company mills AR receivers from 7075-T6 billet and AK receivers from 4140 steel, and sells them through dealers nationwide.

The lowers are the draw, with bold machined styling you can't get from a forging. Names include the Livewire, Hellbreaker, The Jack, Overthrow and Showdown.

The AK receivers have a built in AR buffer tube mount, patented in 2014, so you can run AR stocks. There's also a billet upper at about $230, a 15 inch M-LOK handguard at about $160 and wood and aluminum grip panels.

Sharps lowers are about 5% of lowers in builds here. They run about $285 against roughly $215 for the typical lower, while the handguards come in a bit under, about $145 against $175.

You pay for looks, since a billet lower works like any mil spec one. We'd buy a Sharps lower when you want a build that stands out.
