Why Tps Arms

TPS Arms is a small Minnesota company that makes plain AR-15 lower parts in the USA: hammers, triggers, mag catches, bolt catches, pins and springs. It's the kind of part a distributor keeps in a bin, not a showpiece.

The magazine catch assembly is the part you'll run into most. It's a steel catch, spring and button that sells for around $10, and it drops into any mil-spec lower. The Enhanced Trigger Group is a complete drop-in kit with a 5.5 pound pull for about $36 to $40.

Beyond that it's lower parts kits from about $33 to $60, trigger guards and small repair kits. The odd one out is the M6 Takedown, a revival of the old aircrew survival gun: an over and under rimfire and .410 that weighs about 5 pounds with an 18.25 inch barrel.

The TPS mag catch is the fourth most added magazine release, showing up in about 5% of builds that have one. It's a fill the gap part, so there's no real price story: it costs what a mil-spec catch costs.

These are mil-spec parts, not upgrades. The trigger pulls like a standard one, and you won't get the extended controls or extra finish work of pricier kits. The upside is a lifetime warranty on the hammer, trigger, catches, selector, disconnector and trigger guard against defects or breakage from normal use.

The catch right now is finding it. In early October only about 6% of TPS listings across stores were in stock, so most shops show it as backordered.

We'd use TPS to finish a budget lower when it's on the shelf, starting with the mag catch. If it isn't in stock, any mil-spec catch does the same job.
