Why Advanced Technology

ATI is a Grafton, Wisconsin company that makes stocks, grips and buffer tube kits for a long list of guns, from ARs and AKs to Mossberg and Remington shotguns. It's all made in the USA and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

For an AR, the buffer tube is the part to know. ATI's aluminum parts are 6061-T6 with a Type III hardcoat, and the Strikeforce stock kit ships with the tube, buffer, spring, locking ring and castle nut, so one box finishes the back of a lower.

The rest is simple, cheap furniture. The Strikeforce is a six position glass reinforced polymer stock with a Scorpion recoil pad, the Classic grip runs about $15, and the TactLite and Fiberforce lines cover rifles and shotguns well beyond the AR.

Prices sit right at the slot median: about $45 for a buffer tube against roughly $46, and $18 for a grip against $20. It's the fifth most added buffer tube, in about 5% of builds that have one, and it turns up beside CMMG and Timber Creek parts far more than most brands do.

The trade-off is fit. The tube kits on ATI's own site are commercial diameter, and commercial and mil-spec tubes are different sizes, so a stock cut for one won't sit right on the other. Check what your stock needs before you mix brands.

We'd buy ATI when you want a working stock and tube for the least money, like a first range carbine. If you already own a mil-spec stock, start with a different tube.

  • ATI's aluminum parts, like its buffer tubes, are 6061-T6 with a Type III hardcoat anodize.
  • ATI's stocks and grips are molded from a polymer it calls Extreme Military Grade Polymer.
  • ATI designs its parts to work with each other, so its stocks, grips and tubes mix and match.
