Why Nightforce
Nightforce started in 1992 with an Australian founder and has built its scopes in Orofino, Idaho since 1998. It won a US Special Operations Command contract in 2010.
The tubes are machined from solid 6061-T6 bar, thicker than most. Each scope goes through 70 to 130 inspection points, gets banged on a steel post from every side and must still hold zero, then gets pressure and temperature tested.
The line runs from the SHV as the entry model through the NX8 and NXS to the ATACR, plus competition and benchrest scopes and mounts.
Nightforce makes up about 4% of rifle scopes in builds, at around $2,700 against roughly $400 for the typical scope.
Thick tubes make these heavy, and the money buys durability more than features. We'd buy one for a rifle you'll beat on at distance; a lighter LPVO fits a carbine better.
