Why LaserMax
LaserMax, from Rochester, New York, puts the laser inside the pistol, in the recoil spring guide rod. Nothing hangs off the gun and you don't need a special holster.
The guide rod holds the diode, batteries and spring in one part. It drops in without gunsmithing, comes zeroed to about 2 inches at 20 yards, and pulses for visibility and battery life.
There are guide rod models for Glock, Beretta, SIG, Smith & Wesson, 1911 and Springfield, plus rail mounted lasers. LaserMax makes up about 3% of laser adds.
