Why Olight

Olight is a Chinese flashlight maker that Fox Fan founded in 2007, based in Zhongshan with a US arm in Georgia. Its rail lights are the low cost alternative to the usual American weapon lights.

The Odin is the rifle light. It puts out 2,000 lumens and 22,500 candela from a proprietary 5,000mAh 21700 battery, charges on a magnetic cable, weighs about 216 grams and ships with a Picatinny mount and a magnetic two pad remote switch.

The Odin Mini runs 1,250 lumens on a proprietary 18500 cell, weighs 176 grams and bolts straight to M-LOK. For pistols, the PL-3 Valkyrie makes 1,300 lumens on two CR123A batteries and comes with Glock and Picatinny mounts.

Olight is the fourth most added weapon light brand, in about 4% of builds that have a light. Most of its lights in those builds sell for about $140.

The complaints are real. One long term Odin test saw the mount's metal crossbar bend after 250 rounds, and output steps down from 2,000 lumens to 1,000 and lower as it runs. The battery is proprietary, and the remote isn't compatible with SureFire or Unity switches.

Olight's big 2022 recall hit handhelds, not weapon lights: 215,000 flashlights that could turn on in a pocket or holster and burn people. Its 2026 launches have been handhelds too.

We'd put an Odin Mini on a range or truck gun where the price matters most. For a home defense rifle, we'd spend a little more on a light with a standard battery and tape switch.
