Why Viridian

Viridian started in Minneapolis in 2006 and made the first compact green laser built for carry handguns. It holds a patent on INSTANT-ON activation, and some gun makers ship its sights from the factory.

Lasers are still the core. The E-Series is a small green laser for carry pistols at about $132, with an ambidextrous switch where your trigger finger rests. For long guns, the X5L-RS Gen 3 pairs a 5 mW green laser with a 500 lumen light, a rechargeable battery and six modes.

The optics side has grown. The RFX 35 is a 1 ounce green dot with a 22x26mm window, a 3 MOA dot and an RMR style footprint, rated past 30,000 hours on a CR2032. For 2026 Viridian added more RFX and MDS sights, the 4LUX foregrip light and a weapon mounted camera.

Viridian is the fifth most added laser, in about 7% of builds that have one. Its red dots sit far under the typical optic, about $95 against roughly $485, and land in about 3% of builds with an optic.

Battery life is the trade-off with green. The E-Series green runs about an hour of steady use, and the X5L-RS runs about 40 minutes with light and laser on. The RFX dot isn't as bright in hard sun as some rivals, and you pull the whole optic to swap its battery.

We'd buy Viridian for a green laser on a carry or home defense gun, starting with the E-Series. For a rifle, put the money into a dedicated light and a better dot first.
