Why Superlative Arms

Superlative Arms is a small shop in New Port Richey, Florida that makes everything in house. It's known for one idea: a gas block that bleeds extra gas out the front instead of choking it off.

The clamp-on .750 block is 416 stainless, an inch long and 1.68 oz, with 30 locked positions. The detent sits outside the block, so carbon can't seize the adjustment. It's built for suppressed and short barrel rifles that run overgassed.

The same block comes in .625, .750 and .875 sizes, in solid, set screw and clamp-on versions, some with a melonite finish. The adjustable piston system pairs the block with a one piece carrier for about $290 list, in carbine, mid and rifle gas lengths.

At about $90, the block costs close to twice the typical gas block at $51, and it's the third most added block, in 17% of builds that have one. Builds running it carry Radian controls 60% of the time, which fits a suppressed setup.

Price is the main trade-off, and the install is the other. It's a gas block you have to line up on the port under the handguard, and the maker recommends a gunsmith put it on.

We'd buy one for a suppressed or short barrel build that's overgassed. On a plain 16 inch carbine, a fixed block saves you about $40.
