Rattle Can Galaxy: the Fortnite Skin on a Real AR-15, AK-47 and Glock

Galaxy is a space look of navy, purple, pink and stars, named after Fortnite's Galaxy skin, one of the game's rarest outfits. In Fortnite it's a character skin, and the matching gun wrap is Star Scout. Here it is painted with real spray can colors on 12 real guns. Pick yours to open it in the planner, then reroll the layout or paint over it by hand.

Quick answer

  • The Galaxy skin comes from Fortnite.
  • It takes 4 spray cans: Gloss Navy Blue, Gloss Purple, Gloss Mambo Pink, Flat White.
  • Spray it light to dark: Gloss Navy Blue first, Flat White last.

Cans and spray order from the Krylon and Rust-Oleum color charts, matched in GunPartPicker's paint planner.

Where the Galaxy skin comes from

Epic released the Galaxy outfit on 10 August 2018 as a Samsung promo. You logged in on a new Galaxy Note 9 or Tab S4 and played three matches.

That window made it one of Fortnite's rarest skins. Players tried store demo phones to claim it, and Samsung put up signs to stop them.

Galaxy is an outfit, not a weapon wrap. The wrap that matches it is Star Scout, released on 1 August 2020 in the Galaxy Pack.

Call of Duty players looking for a galaxy camo usually mean Black Ops 3's Dark Matter, which has its own page. A space look like this one works on any gun.

Painting a galaxy gun

Navy base, then soft clouds of Krylon Gloss Purple and smaller bursts of Gloss Mambo Pink, misted from far away.

Stars go last. Spray Flat White through a star stencil, or flick specks from two feet off. Mix a few big stars with a lot of tiny ones.

We'd add the stars last and step back often. You'll be tempted to add too many.

How to spray Galaxy on a gun

  1. 1. Strip it down

On an AR pull the bolt carrier group and split the upper and lower. On an AK take off the dust cover and bolt carrier. On a Glock take the slide off. Remove the optic or plan to tape it.

  2. 2. Degrease everything

Wipe every outside surface with acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Paint will not hold over gun oil.

  3. 3. Mask what moves

Plug the chamber and muzzle, tape the ejection port, magazine well, trigger and safety, and cover the optic lenses.

  4. 4. Base coat in navy blue

Two light coats over the whole gun, 8 to 12 inches away, 10 minutes apart.

  5. 5. Soft purple haze

Mist soft patches of purple from 12 to 18 inches, so the edges fade.

  6. 6. Soft mambo pink haze

Mist soft patches of mambo pink from 12 to 18 inches, so the edges fade.

  7. 7. White through a stars stencil

Lay a stars stencil sheet on the gun and spray white through it.

  8. 8. Let it cure

Handle it after an hour but give it a full day before it goes in a case, and a few days before hard use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a Galaxy wrap in Fortnite?

Not by that name. Galaxy is a 2018 outfit. The matching weapon wrap is Star Scout, from the 2020 Galaxy Pack.

How do you paint a galaxy on a gun?

Navy base, soft purple and pink clouds misted from a distance, then white stars through a stencil or flicked from the nozzle.

What spray paint do you need for a Galaxy paint job?

4 cans of Krylon, sprayed in this order: Gloss Navy Blue, Gloss Purple, Gloss Mambo Pink, Flat White. Rust-Oleum has a match for every color.

Can you paint the Galaxy skin on a real gun?

Yes. Strip and degrease the gun, mask the bore, chamber and anything that moves, lay the lightest color first and build the look light to dark with tape and stencils. Plan on an afternoon plus a day to cure.
