Rattle Can Redline: the CS2 Skin on a Real AR-15, AK-47 and Glock

Redline is the CS:GO skin that puts a thin red racing pinstripe on black carbon fiber, best known on the AK-47. EmKay designed it in 2013. Here it is painted with real spray can colors on 12 real guns. Pick yours to open it in the planner, then reroll the layout or paint over it by hand.

Quick answer

  • The Redline skin comes from CS2.
  • It takes 3 spray cans: Black, Gloss Banner Red, Gloss Smoke Gray.

Cans and spray order from the Krylon and Rust-Oleum color charts, matched in GunPartPicker's paint planner.

Where the Redline skin comes from

EmKay submitted it to the Steam Workshop in November 2013 under the name Elegant-Red. Valve renamed it Redline.

The AWP Redline came first, in the Winter Offensive case on 18 December 2013. The AK-47 Redline followed in the Operation Phoenix case on 20 February 2014.

Valve's description: carbon fiber hydrographic with a red pinstripe decal. The stock and handguard stay solid black.

The AK-47 Redline is one of the most recognized affordable skins. In October 2026 a Field-Tested AK listed around $32 on the Steam Market.

Painting a Redline on a real gun

Black base, then thin lines. Use 1/8 inch pinstripe tape or vinyl masking to mark the lines, mask everything else, and spray Krylon Gloss Banner Red.

Add a few Gloss Smoke Gray lines beside the red. For the carbon look, spray gray through fine mesh before the stripes, very light.

We'd measure the stripes from a screenshot of the AK so the spacing looks right. You can't fix a crooked pinstripe without masking again.

How to spray Redline on a gun

  1. 1. Strip it down

On an AR pull the bolt carrier group and split the upper and lower. On an AK take off the dust cover and bolt carrier. On a Glock take the slide off. Remove the optic or plan to tape it.

  2. 2. Degrease everything

Wipe every outside surface with acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Paint will not hold over gun oil.

  3. 3. Mask what moves

Plug the chamber and muzzle, tape the ejection port, magazine well, trigger and safety, and cover the optic lenses.

  4. 4. Base coat in black

Two light coats over the whole gun, 8 to 12 inches away, 10 minutes apart.

  5. 5. Banner red stripes

Tape off or freehand long stripes and spray banner red.

  6. 6. Smoke gray stripes

Tape off or freehand long stripes and spray smoke gray.

  7. 7. Let it cure

Handle it after an hour but give it a full day before it goes in a case, and a few days before hard use.
