About Cci

CCI is the Idaho ammo maker behind Mini-Mag and Stinger rimfire, Blazer training ammo and a big share of reloading primers.

Founded 1951, Lewiston, Idaho, Made in USA · Rimfire · Primers · Blazer

Why Cci

CCI started in 1951 in Lewiston, Idaho, in a converted chicken coop next to a gun club. Its first job was supplying reliable primers to reloaders after the war, and it still makes primers today.

The .22 LR is what made the name. The Mini-Mag came out in 1962 as a high velocity 40 grain load, and the Stinger followed in 1975 with a longer case and a 32 grain bullet at around 1,685 fps.

The rest of the line runs from Blazer handgun training ammo, a brand launched in 1981, to polymer coated Clean-22 and suppressor friendly rimfire loads. The Lewiston plant still makes it, now under Czech ownership since late 2024.

It's not match ammo, and Stingers won't run or group the same in every .22. Try a few boxes in your gun before you buy in bulk.

We'd keep Mini-Mags as the default .22 load for a rimfire trainer and Blazer for cheap handgun practice. It's the safe pick when a shelf has nothing else.

  • The .22 LR Mini-Mag came out in 1962, and the high velocity Stinger followed in 1975.
  • CCI still makes primers for reloaders.
