About Primary Weapon Systems
PWS makes AR rifles that run a long stroke piston, basically the AK operating system grafted onto the AR. They started out making muzzle devices and compensators.
Founded 2008, Boise, ID, Made in USA · Long stroke piston · Lifetime warranty · Sub MOA guarantee
Why Primary Weapon Systems
PWS is a Boise, Idaho maker that began with muzzle devices and moved into rifles. Its uppers run a long stroke piston, basically the AK operating system grafted onto an AR.
The MK116 and MK216 are the 5.56 and 7.62 NATO rifles in the MK1 and MK2 series. Early ones came with 16 inch match grade medium contour barrels and a PWS brake, and they shot 1.5 to 2.5 inch groups at 100 yards in testing.
Every PWS upper and complete rifle comes with a sub MOA guarantee with quality ammo and a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
PWS uppers run about $1,310 on GunPartPicker builds against roughly $400 for the typical upper. The buffer runs about $180 against $57, since the piston system wants its own.
So this is three times the price of a standard upper, with piston parts you can't swap for normal DI parts. We'd buy one for a suppressed or hard use gun, and stick with direct impingement for everything else.
- The PWS long stroke piston runs straight through to the bolt carrier, the way an AK does it, instead of a gas tube or short stroke pusher.
- PWS uppers and complete rifles carry a sub MOA accuracy guarantee with quality ammo.
- PWS backs its uppers and rifles with a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
