About Shepherd
Shepherd makes rangefinding scopes built around the Dual Reticle System. You can range a target and check your zero through the scope.
Founded 1983 · Rangefinding reticles · BDC reticles
Why Shepherd
Dan Shepherd started Shepherd Scopes in 1983 around a dual reticle idea. The parent company today is Salvo Technologies.
The Dual Reticle System pairs a front focal plane rangefinding circle with a rear focal plane duplex. You range a target through the scope, and One Shot Zero is meant to make zeroing quick.
Models include the DRS 3.5-15x45 at about $1,200, the DRS 6-24x50 at about $1,300 and the BRS 4-16x44 rangefinding BDC at about $550, plus Rugged 1-8x24 and 3-9x40 and Rogue scopes.
It's a hunting rangefinder system, not a modern tactical reticle, and the DRS costs as much as big name glass. We'd look at one if you hunt at unknown distances and don't want to carry a separate rangefinder.
- The Dual Reticle System rangefinds through the scope and has features like One Shot Zero.
- The BRS Series uses a BDC reticle built for rangefinding.
