Why Shield Sights
Shield has made mini red dots in England since the early 1980s, now in Crewkerne, Somerset. Founder Jeremy White and his son James run it.
Its sights were sold for years under other names. The SMS design was licensed to JP as the JPoint and to Trijicon as the RedDot, and Shield supplied electronics work for Trijicon's RMR.
The current line includes the RMS family (RMSc, RMSw, RMSx and RMS 2), the SMS 2, AMS enclosed pistol sights and the SIS rifle sight. The RMSc lists at about $430 and the SMS 2 about $300.
The UK MOD fielded Shield sights on an urgent requirement in 2007 and chose its CQB rifle sight in 2011.
Shield uses its own footprint across the line, so check your slide cut before you buy. We'd buy one for a slim carry pistol already cut for it.
